theo-logic: Together with Reason

We're starting a new discussion/study group called 'theo-logic'. The group will meet on Thursday evenings twice a month starting with a kick-off on Thursday, September 30, at 7:30 pm. As the name implies, the purpose of the group is to deepen our understanding of theological issues and questions in a welcoming and engaging format. If that sounds like fun (it does to me!), then BYOB (beverage) and join Pastor Mike and Pastor Ray at the church parsonage, 3413 W. Medill.

Change a Life...One backpack at a time

Our 5% giving for September will support World Relief's efforts to provide refugee children with school supplies. The initiative, called Back-2-School, provides backpacks, paper, pencils, scissors, crayons-everything that children need to be prepared for a successful year at school. With budget constraints, families are required to provide more and more supplies for the classroom. By providing the supplies, we ensure that education remains "free" for refugee families. You can find out more about the project at www.Back-2-School.org.

Logan "Square Meal"

Our next shared meal with Humboldt Park Social Services (which is actually in Logan Square) will be held on Sunday, September 26. The meal is served from 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm at the Humboldt Park United Methodist Church (located at Shakespeare and Mozart Avenues). Of course, we have to prepare the meal too. We always need volunteers to help with preparation (after church) and serving. See Karen Guziel if you can assist. You can also just join us for the meal and build relationships with the clients of HPSS.

Building Update

Our application for a building permit to proceed with our building repairs has been submitted to the Chicago Building Department, but due to a backlog of applications, the city projects that our inspection will not occur until the last week of September. Once the inspection has been completed, we will have a clear idea of our building's future. It will all depend upon their assessment of the building and what code upgrades they may require. Please pray for this lengthy and frustrating process.

Let's Go To The Fair

Did you know that Chicago has its own County Fair? It does-at the Garfield Park Conservatory, and this year your family can join the fun through imPACT (Parents and Children Together). The 10th Annual Fair will be held on Saturday, September 18, and will feature a Midway for kids, a petting zoo with pony rides, down-home music, Garden produce and all the exhibits of the Conservatory. If you would like to participate, download a registration form on the Family Field Trip page.
