MAY 2008

PEACE NOW!!

As temperatures rise, so does the threat of violence in our community. Already, dozens of shootings have occurred in Chicago. The people of God must stand together for LIFE.

On May 10, 2008, hundreds of people will walk for peace at the 13th Annual Peace Walk which will begin at 10:00 a.m. at Clemente High School (1147 N. Western Ave.) and proceed to the Humboldt Park Boat House where everyone will enjoy the "Block Party for Peace". The event is sponsored by the Alliance of Local Service Organizations (ALSO), Capilla Del Barrio, and DEPTH Youth Peace Project.

Let's join together for a day of safe fun, unity, sharing and new possibilities.

Mom is the Bomb

We wouldn't be alive without them, so moms deserve a special day with special treatment. On Sunday, May 11, we'll do our part to make their day memorable at Kimball Avenue. We'll feature music performed by our children and a recognition gift from the Christian Education Department.

"Rock" On

On Saturday, May 24, you're invited to enjoy a day at Rock River Bible Camp near Dixon, IL. The annual picnic and program will begin at Noon. Meat and beverages will be provided, just bring 2 dishes to pass and your own table settings. This is a great opportunity to enjoy nature and connect to the work of RRBC.

And it is time to register for summer camp at RRBC before the late fee is charged starting June 1. Find out all the details of our weeks of camp and download registration forms at the camp web site.

National Conference

Pastor Ray and Kimball's Lay Delegate, Heather Deane, will participate in the Evangelical Congregational National Conference May 27 - 30, 2008, at Messiah College in Grantham, PA. Our new Bishop, Rev. Kevin Leibensberger, will preside over the sessions.

Our MAY Tithe

After 14 years of civil war, the country of Liberia on the west coast of African is in shambles. The infrastructure and economy have been destroyed. To help bring healing to this nation, our church will participate in "Launch Liberia" and contribute 5% of our May offerings to a micro-loan fund being established by E. C. Global Ministries. Single mothers will receive the tools needed to rebuild their lives through the Evangelical Women's Assistance Training Initiative (EWATI).
