MARCH 2008

Good Friday and Easter Events

Kimball Church has several events to help you enter more deeply into the suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus. We hope you'll take the opportunity to grow in your faith during this special season.

LENTEN COMPACT: During Lent, many people in our congregation are participating in what we've called "the Fantastic Drastic Plastic Fast", seeking to reduce our use of plastic bags, bottles and packaging. In addition, we are taking other steps to become better stewards of God's creation. The entire compact can be viewed on our Justice Watch page.

GOOD FRIDAY: This year, Kimball Avenue will celebrate Good Friday with Capilla Del Barrio to recognize that Jesus' death creates a new community. The service will be held at 3058 W. Armitage on Friday, March 21. Time of the service will be announced.

EASTER SUNDAY: He is risen indeed! Join us for a celebration of the resurrection on Sunday, March 23. A breakfast, sponsored by the Christian Education Department, will be served at 9:30 a.m. The worship service will begin at 10:30 a.m. PLEASE NOTE THE TIME CHANGE FOR EASTER SUNDAY.

Turn Out the Lights!

For one hour (8 pm - 9 pm) on Saturday, March 29, we'll join thousands of other Chicagoans to turn out the lights and draw attention to the need to reduce our consumption of electricity. But what fun is staying home in the dark?

We invite you to enjoy an evening at Kimball Avenue. At 6:00 p.m., we'll gather for a potluck meal, followed by the screening of the documentary, "Mountain Mourning". This powerful film looks at the impact on the practice of removing coal in West Virginia through mountaintop removal. At 8:00 p.m., we'll turn out the lights and enjoy fellowship by candlelight.

Creation Care

Starting Sunday, March 30, Justice Watch has planned four Sundays with an emphasis on Creation and our responsibility to care for it as stewards. The emphasis will culminate with Earth Sunday on April 20. Watch for more details.

"Tap Into the Sap"

You and your family are invited to experience the entire maple syrup-making process from tapping the tree to boiling it down into syrup at the Maple Syrup Festival at North Park Village on Sunday, March 30. The event will begin with a light lunch at 12:15 p.m. There is a small fee for this event. Download a registration form on the Family Field Trip page.

Our March Tithe

With our Lenten Compact and our emphasis on Creation Care, 5% of our Sunday offerings in March will be sent to the Evangelical Environmental Network, a faith-based organization that advocates for actions and policies that "honor God and protect the environment." For more information about their work, visit their web site.
