Take '10' for Our Building

Throughout the summer, we are asking everyone to take 10 minutes on Wednesdays to pray for God's direction regarding our building needs. There are many issues including city permits and code upgrades that make the restoration process more complicated. We need wisdom. God says, "Ask for it." So, thanks for praying with us.

Faith Is Coming to Kimball

A group of 10 youth and adults from Faith E. C. Church in Lancaster, PA, will be coming to Kimball Avenue on Monday, July 19, 2010, for a week of training and work around issues of justice. Led by Pastor Joel Kime, the group will participate in a series of daily Bible studies and work in ministries of justice and mercy.

We are also scheduling several opportunities for you to meet them and work along side of them. On Tuesday, July 20, at 6:30 pm, we will enjoy a cookout together in the churchyard and spend time getting to know one another. Everyone is welcome to participate in the studies and service opportunities throughout the week. A full schedule of events and activities will be posted in the bulletin in the coming weeks.

Let's give them a great Chicago welcome. The group will be with us through Sunday morning worship service on July 25, 2010.

We're Taking Inventory

Our inventory of the contents of the church will continue on Inventory Day, Saturday, July 10, 2010. We have made great progress, but we still have several closets that we must go through. If you are available to help, contact Pastor Ray or Pastor Mike.

Youth Empowerment Thru Employment

Over the Father's Day weekend, more than 40 people were shot on the streets of Chicago and 7 people died. Violence increases where there are few opportunities for meaningful employment. With youth unemployment at around 25%, the need has never been greater. The Alliance of Local Service Organizations (ALSO) has started a unique program for high school students, training them to operate sound systems and DJ equipment for summer festivals. During the month of July, we will give 5% of our General Fund offerings to support this creative approach to provide employment opportunities and stem the violence in our community.

HPSS Meal Spiel

Our monthly meal for Humboldt Park Social Services will be held at 3:30 pm on Sunday, July 25, 2010. We need your help to provide the ingredients, prepare the meal and serve our guests. A signup sheet will be available at the church.
